Apple seems to have a magical touch when it comes to transforming certain devices into mass-market products. It did so with the iPod (2001), iPhone (2007), iPad (2010), and Apple Watch (2015). Now, it remains to be seen if it can achieve the same with its first mixed reality glasses: Apple Vision Pro. Priced at $3,499, they will be available early next year in the United States (the company did not provide availability details for other regions). Presented this Monday at the Apple Developers Conference, the device aims to compete with those from other tech giants like Microsoft or Meta and change the way users work and entertain themselves. “It’s the most ambitious device we’ve ever built,” the company said during the presentation. The Meta Quest 3 is available from 569.99 euros.
“This is a day I’ve been waiting for years,” stated Tim Cook. The CEO of Apple explained, “Augmented reality is a profound technology. The combination of digital content with the real world can unlock experiences like never before. That’s why today I am pleased to announce an entirely new AR platform with a new and revolutionary product,” he said before showing a video of the Apple Vision Pro glasses.
